Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)
has rapidly become the world's leading cloud computing platform, widely
appreciated for its dynamic and cost-efficient approach to server
virtualization. It's a mature product that comes with a multitude of
useful tools, and this all makes it fairly easy to get started with
As it turns out however, this is actually deceivingly simple. Once
you get started a number of problems emerge that might not be all that
apparent from the very beginning; problems concerning e.g. security,
server maintenance, and account logistics.
This presentation will focus
on these problems and propose several useful tips and pointers, based on
experiences that come from my three years with Amazon EC2 in several
different projects. We will only very briefly discuss the basics, and
quickly dive deeply into the everyday troubles of an Amazon EC2 server
