A MOVIE FROM A PAINTING - THORNHILL DIGITAL STORYTELLING
- Business & Professional
You are cordially invited to the next Thornhill Design Laboratory Salon,
to be held Wednesday, August 15, 2012. We will start at 10:00 AM and run to Noon.
Seating Is Limited. Advance Registration – Pay What You Can
Our discussion this week starts with the first of a two part experience. Part One: Almost every company, organization, school, artist and entrepreneur will think this year about their basic technology and equipment for access. This is our Digital Landscape. With many changes afoot, we also worry about “Program Integration” for existing and new elements. Question: will the platform have an Apple, Google or Microsoft pedigree?
Part Two: The timely theme for the 2-Day Thornhill & Studio Quarterly Design Review will be “Our Digital Landscape – Platform Integration.” A preview of the dynamic program will be given by John E. Webb, liaison with our event venue, DeVry University in Bellevue. The dates are August 16 & 17, 2012 and free registration is available at http://thornhill-quarterly-Q3-2012.eventbrite.com.
Also this week will be a demonstration project from Roger S. Mitchell. As Mr. Mitchell works on his own lab, he is researching suppliers for assistance with the physical buildout. There are so many new providers in the marketplace for design, supplies and construction that the process will soon have a dedicated slide presentation. Roger’s “Out of the Box” laptop presentation / big screen slide show is a work-in-progress that can help us all.
There is no mandatory fee to attend, but donations will be accepted when you register. Pay what you choose. Advance registration is requested. Register today at: http://tdlsalon3.eventbrite.com. Caution: We have limited our group to twelve, so that each person can fully participate in the discussion.
The purpose of the weekly event is to give details about The Thornhill Design Laboratory, our continuous improvement and specific projects. Join us each Wednesday morning (we start at 10:00 AM) in the Fireside Room at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center, 4272 Fremont Avenue (At the corner of 43rd), in Seattle, Washington 98103. Check: http://fremontabbey.org. The salon will always be a source for up-to-the-minute news and connections for everything happening at the Design Lab and in the design world.
Our book this week: Continuing the theme from new platform to new lab, we’re kicking around the original “new”, Being Digital, by Nicholas Negroponte. Published in 1995, a well-known quote from the book advises “Computing is not about computers anymore. It is about living.” If you have read the book, we would certainly like to hear your opinion. Join us – or email it in!
Hospitality is part of the package. If we are fortunate, we will have Kosher Small Plates from Cindy Mitchell. Coffee and bottled water will be served. You are welcome to bring pastries or treats for the group to enjoy.
The busiest part of The Thornhill Design Lab is the Thornhill Digital Storytelling initiative.
