The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance of New York
invites you to a special dialogue on geriatric mental health entitled

This Chair Rocks

presented by

Ashton Applewhite
Creator of the blogs Yo, Is This Ageist and This Chair Rocks

Cost: $15.00

Older adults tend to be happier than younger adults, and the vast majority of them live independently-- so why do many of us still see old age as a time of decline and unhappiness?
Ashton Applewhite takes on these misconceptions in This Chair Rocks, an engaging talk that will help us challenge ageism and see that old age can be a time of creativity, laughter and happiness. This perspective is important for all of us-- whether we work with older adults or simply plan on becoming old ourselves.
Join us for this special presentation that upends stereotypes-- and that just might change your view of aging.

The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance of NY

The Mental Health Association of New York City established The Geriatric Mental Health Alliance in January 2004. The Alliance was formed to confront the mental health challenges of the elder boom and to promote critical changes in practice and policy.

The goal of The Alliance is to promote improved geriatric mental health practice by identifying best and innovative practices, identifying barriers to their use, developing policy proposals to overcome these barriers, and advocating for policy and practice changes. To this end, The Alliance sponsors consensus groups on topics related to geriatric mental health; a series of presentations on best practices with national experts; and numerous conferences. In addition, the Alliance provides technical assistance regarding service models and funding including how to optimize Medicare funding.
