When & Where
In March 2014, Cherie Melancon Franz launched Thinkerella™ in Uptown New Orleans as a way to provide children with an exciting new way of learning. Originally developed for girls (Thinkerellas), the program quickly expanded to include boys (Thinkerfellas) and, one year after opening, debuted a second location in Mandeville, Louisiana, to meet high demand.
Thinkerella is a hands-on educational program for elementary and middle school girls and boys that focuses on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, math) experiments and activities. Through after-school activities, workshops, birthday parties and scout sessions, each session tackles complex material by making it fun and exciting for children through interactive learning experiences. Created by local mom Cherie Melancon Franz, Thinkerella aims to inspire the next generation of makers, builders, shapers, doers, and inventors.
The program’s goal is to provide easily understood real-world examples and demonstrations of sometimes difficult topics, such as Newton’s Third Law of Motion, through gender neutral sessions. Thinkerella allows children to conduct safe, non-toxic experiments that spark their curiosity and help them develop a life-long love of learning. Certified teachers write all curricula and lesson plans.
