"They Call Me Mr. Fry"
Sunday, February 20; 5:30 - 7:00pm
Hotel Real de Minas, San Miguel de Allende

Playing to sold out houses and standing ovations in theaters and universities across the country They Call Me Mister Fry (misterfry.com) is a solo show about Jack Fry’s first year teaching 5th grade in South Central Los Angeles.  It’s a funny, poignant, and true story that has all the laughs, tears and drama of an American classic.

It’s about his relationship with two challenging students and how they affected each other’s lives.  It also follows his descent into the bowels of the big city bureaucracy.  It is about a good-hearted buffoon who evolves into an effective teacher. But most importantly, it challenges what we believe our purpose is.

"On Stage, Mister Fry, Makes the Grade!" LA Times

"GO!!!" LA Weekly

"Mr. Fry is the Patch Adams of Education!" LA Examiner

"This production has enough heart, audacity and originality to stand out from the crowd mainly because of the artistry of Jack Fry" DC Theatre Scene

(selected as one of the Best of the Fest, 2009 Capital Fringe)

"What Fry dramatizes most intimately is the triumphant tragedy of self recognition." Washington City Paper

"The ending of the show is a total tear breaker." All Arts Review

(Best Male Monologue, 2009 Capital Fringe)

Mister Fry has played 3 months off-Broadway at the Comic Strip Live Theater in New York City. It played the 2009 Capital Fringe Festival in Washington, DC where it was selected as one of the Best of the Fest by DC Theater Scene, and it was selected as the Best Male Monologue by All Arts Review.   It was again selected as one of the Best of the Fest by the 2010 Hollywood Fringe Festival by the Asylum Theater of LA and San Francisco.  Stephen Colbert, from The Colbert Report, came to the show and endorsed it on The Colbert Report. (See his endorsement on website misterfry.com.)

The Department of Education in Washington, DC invited Jack Fry to give two Command Performances before two packed houses (500 each performance) at the Lyndon Baines Johnson Auditorium before all the legislators who enact the national educational laws that public schools have to follow nationwide.
