This segment of HBO’s shocking documentary series discusses how our everyday choices affect our health and weight. A panel discussion and Q&A led by local community leaders and obesity experts will follow the screenings Attendees will be given tips and materials for managing a healthy lifestyle and making positive changes in our community!
Three years in the making, The Weight of the Nation examines the facts and myths of this urgent public health issue, showing how obesity affects the health of the nation and the health care system. The film features case studies and interviews with leading experts, individuals and families struggling with obesity. The series also highlights how individuals, worksites, and communities are making positive changes.
The screenings are an early preview of the efforts of Good For You Spartanburg, a branded initiative scheduled to roll out in January 2013.The initiative is intended to capture the broad-based grassroots, nonprofit, institutional, and governmental support for the development of a healthy Spartanburg County.
The Weight of the Nation is a presentation of HBO and the Institute of Medicine, in association with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Institutes of Health, and in partnership with the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation and Kaiser Permanente.

Good for You, Spartanburg is a branding campaign created by the Spartanburg Childhood Obesity Taskforce to capture the broad-based grassroots, nonprofit, institutional, and governmental support for the development of a healthy Spartanburg County. Businesses, schools, nonprofits, neighborhood associations, and more will be given the opportunity to become a partner in the effort.
