THE URBAN NUTCRACKER, CHICAGO
Sunday, December 19, 2010 from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM (CST)
Founder and artistic director of Anita Davis Dance Theater, LaNita Joseph brings cheer to Chicago with an Urban Nutcracker.
“Urban Nutcracker” tells the traditional “Nutcracker” story of a girl who dreams of a nutcracker, mice and toys coming to life and traveling the world, through urban, contemporary hip hop and pop music.
“It also features the ‘Sugar Plum Fairy’ as a b-boy break dancer (an acrobatic hip hop dancer), the mice as ‘hood rats’ and they travel to places such as Africa and Brazil, as opposed to China and Spain,” Joseph said.
When & Where
Anita Davis Dance Theater
Anita Davis Dance Theater is a non-for profit performance/educational group that promotes a positive self image through theater art, media, poetry and dance. Our performances are as original and innovative as they are dynamic and conceptually strong. We always have a positive message and our goal is to inspire individuals to accept them selves as well as others. Our goal is to expose as many people as possible to this message, especially women, LGBTQ community people of color and in urban communities. In order for us to better reach people in underserved communities we have based our studio in the heart of the south side of Chicago. Anita Davis Dance Theater teaches workshops and performs throughout the city.
