The Talent Development Platform: Mapping your organization's talent

Investing in talent through planned professional development programming has been shown to reduce employee and volunteer turnover, while building commitment and longevity to the organization and improving program delivery and operational efficiency.

The authors fo the forthcoming book "The Talent Development Platform: Low and no cost professional development for nonprofit organizations," will present tools from their book to help you reduce turnover and build the capacity of your staff and volunteers.

During this workshop, you will walk through an organization learning assessment, setting goals for professional development, and mapping your organization's talent to the right positions.  Following the session your organization will have the opportunity to use these tools to map your talent in the organization to set a strong foundation for sustaining your talent.

This workshop will be co-led by Dr. Heather Carpenter, Assistant Professor in the School of Public, Nonprofit, and Health Administration at Grand Valley State University. She is an experienced and highly networked nonprofit manager, researcher, trainer and blogger.  She teaches graduate adn undergraduate courses in Nonprofit Management (using the competencies she and Tera developed), Financial Management, Fund Development, Nonprofit Technology and Human Resource Management.  Heather also has an established consulting business and consults with 20-30 nonprofit organizations per year in nonprofit operational issues and curricular development.

Tera Wozniak Qualls, M.P.A. is Director of Communications and Advancement for the College of Community and Public Service at Grand Valley State University.  tera also serves as an adjunct professor of nonprofit administration in the School of Public, Nonprofit and Health Administration at Grand Valley, where she teaches introduction to nonprofits and volunteerism for undergraduate students.  Tera has had the opportunity to work with 1,000's of philanthropic organizations, providing capacity building and technical assistance in the areas of volunteerism, generational dynamics, governance, marketing and communications, human resources, evaluation, and strategic planning.
