Event Details

This presentation will explore key aspects of the contemporary sustainable landscape, as required by ever-evolving regulation and voluntary standards, such as LEED and Bay-Friendly. Water efficiency regulation and its impact on irrigation design, planting design and plant palette will be discussed, as well as best practices for successful sustainable landscapes.

Speakers

Linda Gates, Co-Founder, Gates + Associates
Linda Gates is Co-Founder of Gates + Associates, a women-owned landscape architecture, land planning and urban design firm. She brings 35 years of experience working to incorporate practical, beautiful and economically viable sustainable design practices into a range of civic, retail and residential projects. Linda sits on the Board of Directors for the Bay-Friendly Coalition and is a LEED Green Associate.

Samantha Haimovitch, Landscape Architect, Gates + Associates
Samantha Haimovitch is a Landscape Architect with Gates + Associates with a comprehensive range of expertise in both the public and private sectors, ranging from single and multiple unit residential projects to large scale urban design and master plans. Her public project involvement includes trail design as well as master planning for college campuses, mixed-use neighborhoods, and urban open space. She has a strong interest in the sustainable practice of landscape architecture and in integrating aesthetics with practical design. She is a LEED Green Associate, as well as a certified Bay-Friendly Qualified Landscape Professional and Rater and an Accredited Green Roof Professional. Her specialties include horticulture with an emphasis on native and drought-tolerant plant palettes and community-friendly design through outreach and consensus building.
