"Five Stars."
-John Starling, Founding Member of The Seldom Scene on The Stray Birds

“The reaction here has been stunning to be quite honest with you. There are few records that the entire staff all agree on. We have staff that have been here for a long time and like more traditional sounds, and we have younger folks who like Fleet Foxes etc….but this is truly one album we all sort of looked at each other and said 'wow'.”— Jason Moberg, Music Director, WUMB Boston on The Stray Birds

“Clear-eyed, clear-voiced, singing sweetly from her soul, she captivates an audience” – Mark Miller, Music Director UrbanH2O, on Caitlin Canty

Hailing from southeastern Pennsylvania, The Stray Birds have crafted an original sound that draws upon the richness of American folk music traditions. Talented multi-instrumentalists who perform with captivating musicality, the signature power of their sound lies in outstanding songwriting that soars in three-part harmony.

Maya de Vitry grew up with one foot firmly planted in old-time music festival dirt and the other on stage with symphony orchestras. She has traveled across North America and Europe as a street musician, and now brings a fiddle, a banjo, a guitar, a compelling voice, and award-winning songwriting to The Stray Birds.

Also a classically-trained violinist, Oliver Craven has spent the past four years lending his talents on the fiddle, mandolin, and guitar to stages across North America in various acoustic outfits. The Stray Birds feature Craven’s arresting original songs and vocals.

A classically-trained bassist who now artfully dances between a myriad of styles, Charles Joseph Muench brings his unshakeable groove and powerful vocals to The Stray Birds. He can also be found playing the banjo at breakfast.

Opening the evening is singer/songwriter Caitlin Canty. Raised in Vermont and now based in NYC, Caitlin contributes her pure, nuanced singing to several bands in addition to maintaining an active tour schedule of her own. When it’s her own name on the marquis, she often brings along a duo or trio consisting of some of the most respected sidemen in the Northeast scene. Her current collaborations include cowriting and singing backing vocals for several bands, including Darlingside, a string rock band, and serving as one half of the duo Down Like Silver with Peter Bradley Adams, which released its debut EP in 2011. Caitlin has independently released several EPs including Neon Streets (2010) and one full-length album, Green (2007), which she recorded and mixed in her home studio. Canty released her sophomore album Golden Hour on October 2, 2012. The fan-funded album blends Canty’s folk roots with a Western tone, and her Brooklyn-based, Nashville-bred band brings an alt-country flavor to her songs.
