The Sickle Cell Association of New Jersey is hosting it's first Statewide Sickle Cell Symposium Saturday, November 23rd from 8:30am to 2:30pm at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. We're pleased to have the support of Embrace Kids Foundation and the McCourty Twin's Tackle Sickle Cell, as our premier sponsors.
Our goal is to improve and expand patient and provider knowledge and to improve the treatment for sickle cell disease.
The symposium will feature several workshops on the latest clinical research and treatments. The keynote address at 9:00am will be given by Dr. Wanda Whitten-Shurney, CEO and Chief Medical Officer of the SCDAA-Michigan Chapter and pediatric hemotologist at Children's Hospital of Detroit.
We're planning an exciting program suitable for individuals effected by sickle cell disease, health care professionals who provide care for patients with the condition from infancy to adulthood (including private practice physicians, hospitalists, ED staff, nurses, social workers), and the community at large.
The Dr. Charles F. Whitten Awards for outstanding service will be presented to: The Independent Club of Colonia; Community Service, The Shiloh Baptist Church; Outstanding Sickle Cell Sabbath Partner, Mr. Haywood Barnes; Health Care Professional, Ms. Hermeline Blanc; Outstanding Volunteer and Mrs. Chevalle Phillips; Advocate of the Year. An added feature is a performance by New York's Big Apple Playback Theatre, the Lunch and Learn and museum admission to the exhibit halls.
