The Sparkley Clean Funeral Singers is a quirky, dysfunctional comedy involving alcoholism, Alzheimers, compulsive gambling, and the country-music-singing sister duo Junie and Lashley Lashley. After lead-singer Lashley Lashley gets drunk and crashes their tour bus into a pet store (sending many a goldfish to an early fish tank heaven), her ever-ambitious back-up-singing sister, Junie, gets them a gig as funeral singers with the hope that this unexpected career move will jump start their currently defunct singing career. In this comedy about two disparate and estranged sisters, funeral songs are tailor-made for the deceased and love hangs on by sheer force of heart and will.
The York Theatre asks for your support in funding our Developmental Reading Series
Each year the York makes a home for 30-40 readings of new musicals through its Developmental Reading Series. Our strong commitment to developing new work is an important part of what makes the York unique in the musical theater community. This year, we’d like to make it possible for more writers to avail themselves of the opportunity to do a developmental reading. To do that, the York asks you to make a suggested $5 contribution at the box office when you attend one of our readings. Your contribution will be a vote of appreciation for the Series and for the important role that the York plays in making musicals come to life.
