MISSION STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The First Annual South Florida Marching Band Precision Camp is dedicated to improving middle/high school student’s level of musicianship and marching band skills. During this one-week period students exert much effort and energy in learning warm-up studies, marching band drills, concert ballads, dance routines, and memorize contemporary marching techniques to perfection. It is our hope that students will learn concepts that they can take back to their respective schools and enhance the quality of future presentations. The pre-game and halftime shows will serve as a highlight and culmination of the band camp’s activities in conjunction with the “Birthday of the City of Miami.”

The band camp is driven by experienced college faculty, as well as, pubic and private school teachers’ who have years of teaching experience in the field of music education. Invited band directors who attend the camp will be provided opportunities to participate in workshops, forums, and clinic sessions within the scope of the camp.

Specifically, the camp is designed to develop student musicianship, marching skills, dedication, creativity, pride, life-long friendships, teamwork, and have fun. This camp instills corps techniques and traditional marching band concepts, while helping advance the develop of the campers in their leadership, drum major poise, auxiliary, and provide opportunities for students to perform in symphonic band and master classes.

Awards will be given to campers for Outstanding Musicianship, Spirit, awards named in honor of the late-Kenneth Tolbert, late-Herbert Rhodes Sr. and for the school with the highest attendance. This fun-filled camp will take place in the newly designed Arts Complex building located in Overtown. We encourage the community, students, parents, friends and patrons of music to support this worthy precision band camp that will develop better student leaders, musicians, and people from all walks of life. We will culminate our activities with a symphonic band performance on Sunday, July 27, 4pm and a parade & marching band showcase on Monday 2pm. This worthwhile camp is being co-sponsored by the Southeast Overtown Park West CRA, Coca Cola…
