Government and private entities have embraced social media as a means to generate public interest and support for numerous causes, issues and products. However social media as it relates to the constitutional freedom of speech may present certain challenges particularly for public employees.
During this training we will discuss:
The impact of social media in the workplace;
- An employee’s right to free speech;
- Workplace social media etiquette;
- Social media and harassment in the workplace; and
- How to navigate the use of social media in a manner that does not violate your organization’s policies;
REASONABLE ACCOMMODATIONS: Trainings with the Illinois Department of Human Rights - Institute for Training and Development are accessible to and usable by persons with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Illinois Human Rights Act.

The Institute for Training and Development requires seven (7) business days to obtain any reasonable accommodation. If for some reason you cannot attend your scheduled training, you must request the cancellation of the reasonable accommodation at least 72 hours prior to the date of training. All requests must be in writing and should include reason for cancellation. Failure to comply may result in suspension of future training privileges.
TRAINING MATERIALS: All training materials will be sent via email and must be printed out and brought to class. Materials will no longer be distributed on site. An email containing a link to training materials will be sent out 1 week prior to the training schedule. Please add firstname.lastname@example.org to your address book to avoid emails going to your spam folder.
CANCELLATIONS: If for some reason you cannot attend your scheduled training, you must request the cancellation at least three (3) business days prior to the date of training. Failure to comply may result in suspension of future training privileges.
