The Return of "Why Not Now" with Mark Watts at Harmonia
Saturday, November 23, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM (PST)
You asked for it, and it's back!
After an amazing sold out previous screening of Mark Watts Film, “Why Now? The Final Cut”, featuring father, Alan Watts, on August 24th, the film is back by popular demand for round two. If you missed the first screening, make our way back to Harmonia for another fascinating screening of the short film, along with a few short animations.
The film combines rare and never-before-seen footage of one of Sausalito’s most colorful characters, Alan Watts. From his Sausalito houseboat, The Vallejo, and Muir Woods retreat, Alan Watts brought Eastern thought into popular culture in the Sixties. Vintage film and mind-expanding audio combines with animation from "The Simpsons" animator Eddie Roasas and background art from Tom Killion to present Alan Watts' ever-current and thought-provoking perspectives. Several Alan Watts animations by "South Park" creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker will precede the film screening.
The evening will start with a cocktail hour, along with delicious tacos in the garden from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. (plates $6-$9) Guests can mingle and can participate in intimate conversation with Mark Watts about the film.
At 8:00pm the screening will begin in the historic Garden Studio. The show lasts roughly two hours and will proceed into an after party filled with fantastic music and dancing.
Ticket price $40.00, includes two drinks at the bar, and After Party.
Future programs will include The Houseboat Summit II, a two-day conference dedicated to revisiting the ideas of a Great Society, and what it really means to "drop out", and update in the themes explored by Alan Watts, Gary Snyder, Tim Leary and Allen Ginsberg at the legendary 1967 Houseboat Summit, originally published by the SF Oracle as "Changes".
This is an opportunity to explore Sausalito's visionary past, which is truly coming of age as the former recording studio takes on its new life as a lifestyle center. The event is a benefit for Harmonia, and the Alan Watts Mountain Center in Pt. Reyes. We look forward to an exciting creative evening celebrating the arts, and inquiring minds.
