Event Details

Dr. Sarah Gendron will present her study examining how cultural objects and practices (among them, talk radio, music, dance, film, cartoons, and poster art) have been strategically employed by genocidal regimes in order to cultivate ethnic or religious hatred but also how the surviving population later made use of these same practices in order to bear witness to atrocity and transcend the resultant trauma. She will cover an expansive view of genocide from the Holocaust to Rwanda 94.

Dr. Gendron, associate professor of Francophone languages and literature in the Department of Foreign Languages, received a Rynne Faculty Research Fellowship from the Center for Peacemaking for her work during summer 2013.
