Under the leadership of SFSU lecturer, Dr. Mark Calkins, Mechanics’ Institute offers this semester-long bi-weekly discussion group. This semester, The Proust Group will read and discuss Proust’s Time Regained: In Search of Lost Time, Vol.VI.
The semester starts on Wednesday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m., and meets twice a month for a total of 10 meetings. The group is open to members of the Mechanics' Institute and guests. Fees for each group are $65 for members and $95 for non-members per semester (ten meetings).
The groups are facilitated by Dr. Mark Calkins (Ph.D. in Comparative Literature, UC Irvine) lecturer the Dept. of English and Dept. of Comparative Literature at San Francisco State University. He is also webmaster and editor-in-chief of TempsPerdu.com.

Mechanics' Institute Library & Chess Room
The Mechanics' Institute Library and Chess Room is an historic membership library, cultural event center, and chess club located in the Financial District of San Francisco, California at 57 Post Street. Founded in 1854 to serve the vocational needs of out-of-work gold miners, the Institute today is a favorite of avid readers, writers, downtown employees, students, film lovers, chess players, and the 21st century nomadic worker who needs a quiet place to plug in a laptop and do research.
