The Pension Puzzle: What Can We Afford?

The Providence Journal –– in partnership with Leadership Rhode Island and Rhode Island College –– presents a 360-degree civil discourse on the public pension challenge facing Rhode Island on Monday, Oct. 3, 2011 from 6 to 8 p.m., Sapinsley Hall, Rhode Island College.
The forum will address topics such as “What’s a fair pension?”; “How many pension plans do we need?”; and “Can taxpayers afford public pensions?” Audience members will be invited to participate in iClicker voting and in a question-and-answer session.
Expert panelists will include Gina Raimondo, R.I. general treasurer; Ernest Almonte, former state auditor general; Steven Hartford, town manager, Westerly; John Ward, Lincoln finance director and member of the Woonsocket City Council, among others.
