When & Where
Message from Cameron:
Last summer I received a call on Sunday June 30th from my Dad saying our Uncle Mike was in the ICU at Portland’s OHSU Hospital battling Leukemia. His prognosis was not good. Without hesitation I was on a plane home within hours to spend time with Uncle Mike and my family. When I arrived the moments I had with Uncle Mike, his kids, his wife and our family I will keep private. But what I will share is how I felt during this trip. I felt helpless. This was a marker moment for me. Eye opening to see how precious life is, knowing there truly is only one chance to live your life. How quickly it can be taken away. Sadly, my Uncle Mike lost his battle with Leukemia and passed away a few weeks later.
In the time it took you to read this letter, someone else will be diagnosed with a blood cancer such as leukemia, lymphoma, or myeloma. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is one of the few organizations that not only funds critical research but also supports patients and families emotionally, logistically, and financially.
I have a unique opportunity to help others affected by cancer and am humbled to be a finalist in the third annual Mr. Marina Competition. The competition is a fundraising event for LLS and I am competing in honor of my Uncle Mike. The competition will take place on Wednesday, March 19th, 2014. My financial goal is to raise $15,000 through my campaigning in order to support this critical research and continue supporting families affected by blood cancer.
I am asking for your support by donating to my campaign. A donation of $25 covers a single prescription co-payment for one patient. A $52 donation covers the cost to tissue type a prospective bone marrow donor. A $200 donation funds one Monthly Support Group meeting. A $1,000 donation funds an entire week of blood cancer research at UCSF, Stanford, or UC Berkeley. Every dollar makes a difference.
Please join me in this campaign, donating at whatever level you can, please visit my fundraising page.
