The Men of Strength Club presents: Solutions Through Film
Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 12:00 PM to 5:30 PM (EST)
Silver Spring, MD
"Solutions Through Film" is an annual community strength project hosted by The Men of Strength Club (or MOST Club), national youth development program of Men Can Stop Rape that encourages young men to embrace individualized definitions of masculinity that promote healthy relationships.
Held at the prestigious AFI Silver Theatre since 2006,
our youth-led film festival has garnered support from renowned
filmmakers such as Spike Lee, Byron Hurt ("Beyond Beats and Rhymes"),
and Quincy Jones III ("Letter to the President").
This year's film festival will feature two award-winning documentary films - "Say It Loud!" and "Men II Boys" - that focus on the importance of fathers and mentors in young men's lives. (Please scroll down to view the film's trailers.)
"Men II Boys" director Janks Morton will facilitate a Q&A discussion after his film.
We will also be showcasing a film created by one of our MOST Club students as well as awarding one of our young filmmakers our very first Oscar Micheaux Award for his filmmaking achievements.

"Say It Loud!"
After starring as the voice of Tyrone the Moose on Nickelodeon's Emmy Award-winning animated series "The Backyardigans," 13-year-old Jordan Coleman wanted to create a film that explored the importance of education for African-American boys. The result is Say It Loud, which includes appearances by Ludacris, Michael Strahan, Rev. Al Sharpton, Master P, and Vince Carter.
"Men II Boys"
Produced and directed by award winning documentarian and Founder/CEO of iYAGO Entertainment Janks Morton, "Men II Boys" is a 44-minute film featuring men from all walks of life, delivering words of wisdom or jewels, as a resource for boys and young men of color as they ascend to manhood. The film stems from the fact that over 82% of black children, born since 1990, do not have daily contact with their biological fathers. The film features special interviews with Congressman Elijah E. Cummings; University of Maryland at Baltimore County President, Dr. Freeman A. Hrabowski III; Journalist & Social Activist, Jeff Johnson; and NFL player Daniel Wilcox.
