SATURDAY OCTOBER 8 2016
GATES OPEN 6:30PM / FILM 8:30PM
Allow us to take you back to 1987: a world of mountainous hairdos, sexy saxophone solos, and unfortunate over-sized shirts. And in Santa Carla - “The Murder Capital of the World” – if the fashion doesn’t kill you, the vampires will…
Joel Schumacher’s THE LOST BOYS - featuring not one, but BOTH Coreys! – is an unorthodox take on horror archetypes, a brilliant and stylish blend of comedy and horror that provided scares and laughs long before similar genre-blenders like Scream and Shaun of the Dead. Michael (a brooding Jason Patric) and Sam (a hyper Corey Haim) move to Santa Carla (AKA Santa Cruz…) with their mom Lucy (a perfect-as-always Dianne Weist), and while mom’s looking for a job, Michael and Sam start to make friends with the locals. For Michael, that’s vampire David (Kiefer Sutherland) and his gang of bloodsuckers, including beautiful love-interest Star (Jami Gertz); fortunately, for Sam it’s the Frog brothers (Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander) – comic book vendors by night, vampire hunters by day!
Guests are encouraged to bring low-back chairs and/or blankets for their comfort, as well as food/picnic baskets. Food trucks will be on site, so feel free to come hungry!
Limited parking is available on site on a first-come, first-served basis – please carpool. In the likely event of a full lot, there is additional ample street parking in front of, and west of, Sunnyside Cemetery. IF YOU PLAN ON LEAVING THE EVENT EARLY, DO NOT PARK ON SITE - parking at Sunnyside is STACKED, meaning once you're in, you're in through the evening (though why would you want to leave early?). If you plan to leave early, please park on the side streets.
Advance Online Tiickets are $12 through October 8 (or until sold out). In the event there are tickets left the night of the event, tickets will be on sale at gate, cash-only, at $15.
This event is FREE for The Frida Cinema card-carrying, film-loving Members - just show us your Card at gate! Not a Member yet? Join us at http://thefridacinema.bigcartel.com/! Event will proceed as scheduled in the event of cold weather - bring blankets and snuggle up! - but will be cancelled, and all tickets refunded, in the event of rain.
A proceed of ticket sales will also support Sunnyside Cemetery, a non-profit historical institution celebrating over 100 years in Long Beach!
