The International Music & Dance Show features menu of very talent local musicians, starting with Taikomotion, who perform the art of Japanese drumming, better known as Taiko. In ancient times the drum was first used to drive away evil spirits and pests harmful to crops. It was believed that by imitating the sound of thunder, the spirit of rain would be forced into action. At harvest time, Taiko was joyfully played in thanks for a bountiful crop. Today,Taikomotion offers us a peek into an ancient rite taking us on a musical journey with a joyous performance of Japanese Taiko.
We then welcome the Kapalakiko Hawaiian Band, our talented local musicians who, for over 40 years have performed authentic Hawaiian music and dance throughout the Bay area, California and the United States. Kapalakiko (from the Hawaiian word for San Francisco) Hawaiian Band will present various genres of Hawaiian music on ukuleles and guitar to emphasize the beauty of the Hawaiian language, lyrics, poetry and traditional dance. See www.kapalakiko.org for more information.
Then if you aren’t already off your feet, get up, and join the Duniya Dance and Drum Company who will lead you in Bollywood-style dancing. Formed in April 2007, Duniya (which means “world”) Dance and Drum Company creates dance and music from Punjab, India, and Guinea, West Africa.
