About Todd Lincoln:
Writer/director/producer Todd Lincoln is an award-winning filmmaker who makes his feature film debut with the horror/thriller The Apparition, due in theaters from Warner Bros. this August 24. Starring Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan and Tom Felton, the film follows a young couple, Kelly and Ben (Greene and Stan), haunted by a presence that was unleashed during a university parapsychology experiment. The horrifying apparition relentlessly feeds on their fear. Their last hope is an expert in the supernatural, Patrick (Felton), but even with his help they may already be too late to save themselves from this terrifying force.
In the spirit of classic horror films, Lincoln relied on in-camera effects and a suspenseful anticipation of potential terrors, rather than a preponderance of CGI. His inspirations were Poltergeist, Flatliners, Twilight Zone, and The Strangers, among others.
Upcoming projects for Lincoln include The Nye Incidents, which he will direct and produce for RKO Pictures. The Nye Incidents is the feature film adaptation of the graphic novel by Whitley Strieber (The Hunger, Communion, Wolfen). Lincoln will also direct and produce Twittering from the Circus of the Dead, a feature film adaptation for Mandalay Pictures of the short story by best-selling author Joe Hill (Horns, Locke & Key, Heart-Shaped Box).
Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lincoln got hooked on movies at a young age. Several features shot near his home, notably Francis Ford Coppola’s Rumblefish and The Outsiders. His father served as sports director and anchor for the local ABC affiliate and ran his own production company that produced original sports programming for ESPN. Consequently, Lincoln’s production education began early, as he grew up around film and video equipment, cameramen, directors and live remote shoots. His mother worked on some of the first made-for-video horror movies, such as Blood Cult and The Ripper.
As a teenager, Lincoln began making his own Hi-8 videos, mostly in lieu of writing papers in high school. He served as a production assistant on local independent films and documentaries. During his junior year, he attended USC’s Short Film Summer Workshop in Los Angeles where he wrote, directed and edited his first Super 8 and 16mm films. The day after he graduated high school, he packed up, drove to Los Angeles and secured a PA job on From Dusk Till Dawn, after reading in Fangoria Magazine that Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino were starting production. His experience working in multiple departments on From Dusk Till Dawn was invaluable, as he soon discovered when he entered USC that fall. He took as many film classes as he could, and after two years, he left USC and shot several short films which earned awards and positive reviews at festivals worldwide. He soon moved on to commercials, music videos, and ultimately feature films.
As a writer-director, he developed a reimagining of The Fly for Fox Searchlight and adapted the popular comic book Hack/Slash for Rogue/Universal. His affection for horror and all things macabre led him to co-write the graphic novel Road To Hell for IDW Publishing, about friends on a rescue mission in a savage dystopian world.
He also paid homage to his hometown and to the short film format that gave him his start when he co-founded the Tulsa Overground Film Festival, an annual event showcasing the world’s most innovative short films.
