Founded in 2011, The Handshake Foundation provides high school student-athletes scholarships and mentorships from local business leaders. The name of the organization and the mentorships are based on teaching the kids the importance of giving a firm handshake while looking the person in the eye. We leverage the common experience in sports and John Wooden’s 'Pyramid of Success' to teach students the personal qualities for achieving success - such as hard work, enthusiasm, poise and self-control. Both the student and the mentor benefit from the ability to personally interact on an individual and group basis. Our mission is to provide students scholarships to help for college - and mentorships to help for a lifetime.
To support the growth of the Handshake Foundation we will be hosting The Huddle in the Brewery District on the evening of August 14, 2014. The event will involve the students participating in the Handshake Program and will feature Dr. Kevin Elko, a motivational speaker who has worked with many businesses and sports teams including seven BCS national championship football teams. We believe the event will be relevant and beneficial to all in attendance and hope you can help our students and the Handshake Foundation by supporting The Huddle.
