The Library will be hosting its First Book Festival in Church Square Park, across from the library, Saturday, June 8 from 11am-5pm!Come attend our many free events for all ages!
The Festival Keynote Speaker Maricel Presilla was recently named the James Beard Best Chef Mid-Atlantic and won the prestigious International Association of Culinary Professionals award for best general cookbook for her years-in-the-making “Gran Cocina Latina,” an epic look at Latin American cooking.
Stop by the Local Author Alley where a rotating group of over twenty authors will be there to chat with you. Some of the local authors will also be reading excerpts of their work.
For children there will be a bookmaking workshop, face painting, a bouncy castle, and a special family program from Company’s Coming. Teens can pre register for the Creative But True Storytelling workshop with storyteller/writer Adam Wade.
The Friends of the Hoboken Library will be holding a Used Book Sale and local food vendors will sell goodies all day long.

The Wizard of Oz
June 8, 2013 It's a great day for a Book Fair! And an even better day for "The Wizard of Oz". Presented by our friends Company's Coming! The Classic L. Frank Baum story retold with puppets, kids' participation and more family fun than you've ever had. Tickets for the Wizard of Oz event are available on Eventbrite. Performance takes place at 1:30 in the Big Tent in Church Square Park, across from the library. Be sure to take a ticket for every member of the family attending.
Company's Coming's Mary Ellen Hostak is a puppeteer, storyteller, face painter, actress and stilt walker. With 20 years experience, she has worked as an entertainer for birthday parties, schools, day care centers, libraries and camps performing in her productions of The Wizard of Oz, A Dragon in the Castle, and Beauty and the Beast.
After the show Company's Coming's Mary Ellen Hostak will be in the gazebo doing colorful and glittery face painting in many styles using professional water based face paints.
At 11:00 am, learn how to make your own book with artist, Jamie Ross in the Library's Craft Room. Children, ages 4 to 9 (accompanied by an adult) will learn to illustrate, write a story, and fold their own book. This is a limited attendance class. Sorry, but younger siblings cannot attend. Participation is limited to 20, so call and reserve your space at 201-420-2348.
Father's Day Photocards
Join Mrs. M. at the craft table near the Gazebo from 2:30-4:00 to make Father's Day Photo Card for your favorite Dad.
RSVP's are not required for card making, but supplies may be limited.
Kids will have a bouncing good time in the Bouncy Castle located in Church Square Park.
Storytelling Workshop for Teens with Adam Wade
Teens can preregister at the YA desk for the Creative But True Storytelling Workshop with storyteller/writer Adam Wade.
Adam Wade has been performing in New York City for the past ten years. He is an 18-time StorySLAM Champion at The Moth, and a 2-time GrandSLAM Champion (2006, 2009). He's also been featured on both The Moth Radio Hour and The Moth Podcast. Adam was featured in the April 5th, 2012 New York Times piece "Telling Tales With a Tear and a Smile" by Jason Zinoman. He's performed on shows such as The Moth's Main Stage, Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre's Asssscat 3000 (as the guest monologist), Hot Tub with Kurt and Kristen, Big Terrific, Pretty Good Friends, The Nights of Our Lives, The Rejection Show, Told, The Liar Show, Mortified, Stripped Stories, and The RISK Show.
