October 17th, 2012

The Future of Our Nonprofit: Who’s Charting the Course?
11:00am to 12:30pm
Audrey Grifel, Capacity Building Advisor
NYCON’s Mid Hudson Valley Office

The times are not only a-changing, as Bob Dylan once wrote, but are doing so with blazing speed.  For many nonprofit executive staff and board members, it is becoming difficult enough to plan for the coming year, much less for several years.  In this seminar we will examine the basic approaches and ingredients for a successful strategic planning process. We will pay particular attention to who assumes what role in the process – and how you can incorporate the appropriate mix of staff and board leadership and decision making into your own strategic planning process. This session provides participants with an overview of the strategic planning process and the importance of implementation and monitoring for success.

What will be covered:

  • The value and essential elements of strategic planning
  • Roles and responsibilities of board and key staff members throughout the process
  • Best practices for strategic planning including practical strategies, key players, and the importance  of and tips for ensuring implementation
  • How to design a planning process tailored to your own organization’s circumstances, needs, and goals
