Carl Uminski, Founder & Chief Operating Officer, Somo Agency

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

An internet industry pioneer having held General Management positions in both Europe and the USA with Yahoo.  Carl has over 15 years experience creating new products, defining and executing business strategies on both the PC and Mobile internet.

Carl’s speciality in advertising took a leap in 2000 when he joined Nick Hynes to build the international business for Overture, the creator of the sponsored search industry.  As CTO, Carl was an integral part of leading the European success that eventually led to the business being sold to Yahoo! Inc for $1.6B in 2003.  Overture worked with more than 50,000 advertisers and partnerships with every large internet publisher in Europe.

Carl was later head hunted to the Silicon Valley, California where he led the mobile search business for Yahoo! on a global basis working with some the world’s largest mobile businesses such as Vodafone, AT&T, Verizon Wireless and China Telecom.

Prior to founding Somo Ltd, Carl built a mobile social network with a specific focus on emerging markets and still engages with many internet businesses on a consultancy basis.

As a founder of Somo, Carl has a unique knowledge of the mobile industry ranging from product and technical development through to understanding the commercial opportunities for brands to engage with consumers through carefully thought out strategies maximising return on investment opportunities.

 

Jon Mew, Head of Mobile, Internet Advertising Bureau

 

 

 

Jon Mew was appointed in November 2008 as the IAB’s first Head of Mobile. Jon works with advertisers and agencies, helping them to understand the value of mobile advertising and how it can add to marketing campaigns.

 

Before joining the IAB Jon was the Head of Marketing for Orange portals team, controlling the trade and consumer marketing strategies for the fixed and mobile portals, along with media research. He marketed the launch of Orange’s converged and mobile advertising opportunities, helping Orange to become the most recognised multi-platform media owner.

 

Before Orange, he worked at Freeserve then Wanadoo looking after trade marketing, promoting their advertising portfolio to advertisers and the marketing industry. Previous to that he worked in both marketing and media research at Carlton TV, then part of ITV
