Maja Svensson is the Designer and Founder of ELSA AND ME, a small clothing business that offers locally and organically produced made-to-order clothing to the professional woman. After earning a degree in Economics from Sweden, Ms. Svensson came to New York in 2008 for an internship at the Consulate General of Sweden and shortly thereafter began working at Invest Sweden. Ms. Svensson was inspired by all the people she met in the city “doing their own thing” and started to look into what her “thing” could be. Without any prior experience in the field she began experimenting with fashion design and after making connections to the New York’s famed Garment District, she realized it was possible to make clothing with just a visual idea of a design. After receiving positive feedback on her first designs she registered her company and began making clothing for women like herself, business women and corporate office workers that craved for a more diversified and feminine look at the office, and has since 2011 been working full time with her company.
