Join the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Celebration and the Freedom Jazz Festival for the community celebration "The Dream @ 50 - Honoring the Legacy, Celebrating with Jazz"! Be there on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at 11 AM for the rally and 12 noon 50th Anniversary March from Sabathani Community Center, 310 E. 38th Street. Arrive at M L King Jr. Park for the program at 12:30 PM and the jazz festival at 1:15 to 7:00 PM at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, 4055 Nicollet Avenue South, Minneapolis to enjoy great jazz from artists around the Twin Cities!
In cooperation with the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Legacy Council, the Freedom Jazz Festival shares the day with the Legacy Council's 3rd Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park Legacy Council Celebration co-sponsored by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. This special city-wide event is a community celebration of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park, honors Dr. King's legacy and fortifies the community with history, fun and jazz. As always, the Freedom Jazz Festival is great music and great fun for serious jazz lovers and the whole family! Exhibitors and Vendors will be showing off their great arts, crafts, community organizations, businesses, and more! A variety of cuisine will be sold by Food Vendors that will keep your lips smacking for more! There are plenty of fun activities for the kids with face painting, build a birdhouse project, the Moonwalk and a swimming pool!
This year's music line up includes the Capri Big Band, Minneapolis Jazz Workshop, BKS Band, the Tangents, Walker West Youth Jazz Ensemble, and more to keep you clapping your hands, moving, grooving, dancing in your seats or on your feet! An Open Jam Session at the end invites musicians on stage to jam with the pros as they lead a second line walk, blessing the jazz festival and honoring the park’s Freedom II Sculpture.
Bring your family, friends, blankets, sun hats, lounge chairs, and sun protection for a bright, sunny afternoon, buy some delicious food, treats, eat and jam all day long! So come on down to the Rev. Dr. M L King Park and get your jazz fun on at the Freedom Jazz Festival!

The Freedom Jazz Festival, Inc is a community benefit, nonprofit, volunteer based organization that presents, preserves and promotes Jazz, its West African cultural influences and history through the African American experience. Established in 1999, the Freedom Jazz Festival has been fortunate to present ten festival since its inception.
Minneapolis/St Paul, Minnesota is the home of the Freedom Jazz Festival where we bring families and jazz lovers together to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of great music, arts, culture and community gathering.
The Freedom Jazz Festival has become an anticipated summer time event where jazz is showcased in the beautiful and lush surrondings of Minnehaha Falls Park. Come join us and enjoy a variety of arts, cultures, foods and people along with fantastic music!
