The Blind Leading The Sighted: A Surdas Dance Drama
Saturday, August 31, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM (PDT)
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
This event is a fundraiser for Access Braille. The proceeds of each ticket and pledge go toward funding Braille kits, mobile Braille schools, and the conversion of e-text and audio books for children who are blind or visually impaired.
Five Bay Area classical dance schools come together to perform this dance drama against the backdrop of heartrending Surdas bhajans (hymns) sung by Ms. Sudha Rajagopalan, Access Braille board member and a person with blindness. The dance styles will include Odissi, Kathak, Bharatnatyam and Kuchipudi.
Each ticket supports the purchase of Braille kits to start 2 children on the path to literacy. Pledges are very welcome!
Please contact Viji Dilip at 408-762-4836 or firstname.lastname@example.org for tickets, pledges and further information.
When & Where
Access Braille is a nonprofit that works toward Braille literacy and e-text conversion for students with blindness and visual impairments in developing countries. We fund Braille kits for children with minimal educational resources, purchase vans/trucks and arrange for the transportation of these kits to remote rural areas, and our volunteers scan and convert educational curricula to e-text and/or audio formats.
Access Braille is a registered non-profit with trusted on-ground partners in India, Nepal, Ghana and Liberia.
