WWJ Newsradio 950 presents The Autonomous Car, a business breakfast.
Are we nearing the era of the self driving car? We’ll look at this topic at our June 5th business breakfast at the Lila Jones-Johnson Theatre at Oakland Community College’s Royal Oak Campus. Automotive Insights Reporter John McElroy and Autobeat Reporter Jeff Gilbert will be joined by experts from car companies, suppliers and the tech industry.
An autonomous vehicle is capable of sensing its environment and navigating on its own. A human may choose a destination, but is not required to perform any mechanical operation of the vehicle. Autonomous vehicles sense the world with such techniques as laser, radar, lidar, GPS and computer vision.
Advanced control systems interpret the information to identify appropriate navigation paths, as well as obstacles and relevant signage. Autonomous vehicles typically update their maps based on sensory input, such that they can navigate through uncharted environments.
