Grand Rapids Downtown Alliance and Square Peg Events Promise a Tantalizing, Tasty Adventure with Appetizers
The Artful Appetizer Tour winds down pilot summer series on Tuesday, Aug. 7― tickets on sale now
GRAND RAPIDS― Be prepared for a tasty, tantalizing and unique experience while sampling some of the most savory appetizers downtown Grand Rapids has to offer.
Join the Grand Rapids Downtown Alliance and Square Peg Events in the next of the pilot tour, "The Artful Appetizer", set for Tuesday, Aug. 7.
There is room for 40 people on the tour, which is for the 21 and over crowd. Tickets cost $40 and are on sale now!
The walking tour runs from 7 to 9:30 p.m., with stops at 4 upscale locations. The route will offer plenty of time for sampling mouth-watering appetizers.
The tour also gives people the opportunity to take in the beauty of downtown Grand Rapids.
One of the stops on the tour takes place at The Chop House, a restaurant renowned for its internationally recognized wine list as it is for its prime steak and chops.
This stop will include some pampering, since general manager Harry Johnson says the restaurant's motto is "Be prepared to be pampered."
Johnson is enthused about the tour and likes that the tour takes people inside, into the restaurant where they can experience the hospitality.
When you come in, everything is taken care of. You can leave your troubles at the door. You will be treated well," Johnson said.
The Chop House's chef Zach Hammal will prepare a special appetizer just for the occasion. Also served will be wine by the glass.
Johnson will choose a wine from the 280 wines on the restaurant's wine list.
The tour will provide additional tasty, dazzling creations at CityFlatsHotel in Grand Rapids. Appetizers will be prepared by Elijah Lopez, head chef at the hotel.
Another hosting location is Reserve Wine & Food, which plans to showcase that it is not only a great place for wine and drinks but also a premier downtown, dining destination.
Executive chef Matthew Millar makes dining at Reserve a wonderful experience. Reserve offers 102 wines by the glass as well as more than 400 wines available by the bottle.
Food and wine can sometimes be a daunting experience for some people. What we try to do here at Reserve is immediately tear down those barriers.
We want our guests to have an experience that they will always remember and most importantly have fun," said Reserve general manager Peter Marantette.
The fourth hosting location is Grand Rapids Art Museum. The art museum will add its own elegance and culture to the tour.
We want to introduce a new group of people to the Grand Rapids Art Museum and to the unique things we have in the store,"
said Susan Coombes, retail manager at the art museum. "We have fabulous platters and ways in highlighting your food presentations," Coombes said.
While people are enjoying the appetizers, chefs will discuss how they made the delicacies and how it all came together.
This tour is for those who are interested in the creative side behind appetizers, said Cynthia Hagedorn, owner/creative director of Square Peg Events.
We are excited to lead you to fun destinations and to explore a few fabulous restaurants in downtown Grand Rapids.
The restaurants are ready to create a great experience for the participants as well as show off their culinary skills with presenting artful appetizers," Hagedorn said.
Officials at the Grand Rapids Downtown Alliance are excited that this tour incorporates the culinary and artful and artistic sides of food.
"This is a perfect lead-in into this time of year, with ArtPrize on the horizon. It's a great segue for what's to come," said Nicole Weichelt, marketing coordinator for the alliance.
Like the International Wine Tour, which took place earlier this summer, Weichelt believes there will be a great interest in the Artful Appetizer Tour.
Anyone who enjoys great food and culture will enjoy this tour," Weichelt said.
The Artful Appetizer Tour is part of a pilot program of dining and beverage tours in Grand Rapids. This is the final tour this summer.
Take this opportunity to delight in great food, drinks and socializing.
Tickets are available with cash or checks at CityFlatsHotel Grand Rapids location, 83 Monroe Center St., NW.
Tickets also can be purchased online with credit card at squarepegevents.com.
