Event Details

Finding the time and money to fulfill a dream can be difficult, but, with the advent of crowdfunding, bringing in start-up capital has become easier than ever. Now, all you have to do is present your project on a website and ask people to join in sharing your dream… but is that it? What is the current state of the video game industry? Does it have room for more ideas? What goes into making a project presentable? Are there factors other people may consider important that you haven’t thought of yet?
If you’d like to find out the answer to these, and many more of your questions, join us as we hear from veteran designer Chris Roberts as he gives us insight into how he has created one of the most successful crowdfunded projects, to date.

Speaker Biography

Chris Roberts is one of the most recognized, well-respected, and successful game developers in the interactive entertainment industry. As a storyteller, game designer, game producer, and live-action director, Roberts skillfully combines vision with technical expertise to consistently create cutting edge and often revolutionary interactive entertainment products. His Wing Commander series of games in the 1990s became one of the top grossing and must successful space sim games in the industry. The series was developed while Roberts was at Origin Systems in Austin where he served as VP of new technology and executive producer. Roberts later started his own company, Austin-based Digital Anvil, where he developed other award winning space sims, Freelancer and Starlancer. After spending 10 years in the Hollywood film industry, today, Roberts is chief creative officer at Cloud Imperium Games which he co-founded. The company’s first title, Star Citizen is currently under development.
