The Advocates Toolbox: cultural competence, confidentiality and ethics for social service professionals

 

This course examines the role of culture and ethnicity in social service delivery. How can social service professionals improve their ability to engage clients from diverse backgrounds and design programming that truly meet their needs?  Participants will examine their own cultural biases and how this impacts on their role as providers. The formulation of appropriate professional boundaries, ethics and privacy practices will also be covered.  This course is targeted towards human service and medical/mental health professionals or those interested in pursuing a career in human resources.  

Who should attend?

Anyone interested in developing the skills needed to provide empathic and supportive services within a social service setting.  Those new to the social service or mental health arenas will also find the course helpful.
