Taste of Caribe (formerly A Taste of Cuba) was the concept of Bret Rodriguez, Board of Directors President of the International Children’s Heart Foundation. Bret is a sixth generation member of the Cuban Bacardi family. Having knowledge of the island that contains such rich history and culture, Bret thought a Caribbean night of flavors containing history, food, music and smoke would provide a new and exciting event for the Memphis community. Continuing what Bret’s ancestors have done for over 100 years, raising money to help children around the world with congenital heart defects seemed the perfect fit!
Taste of Caribe has expanded to include authentic Caribbean food, live entertainment, salsa dancing, specialty drinks, with a live and silent auction. The theme of the event has broadened in focus to include other countries that have been influenced by Caribbean culture, such as Ecuador, Honduras, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua – countries frequently visited by our medical teams.
Taste of Caribe is scheduled for Saturday, June 21st, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. until 11:00 p.m. at Askew Nixon Ferguson Architects on 1500 Union Ave. This will be the 10th anniversary of the event in support of life-saving surgeries for children in Nicaragua, Dominican Republic, Honduras, and Ecuador; the largest cigar producing countries in the world! The event will feature a silent auction plus all the smokes, sounds and flavors of the Caribbean!
When & Where
International Children's Heart Foundation
The mission of the International Children’s Heart Foundation (ICHF) is to bring the skills, technology and knowledge to cure and care for children with congenital heart disease in developing nations. ICHF does this regardless of country of origin, race, religion or gender. Our goal is to make the need for ICHF obsolete. We work toward this goal through our medical mission trips where we operate on children and educate local healthcare professionals.
