TFS as Springboard to Agility

Individuals and Interactions are undoubtedly more valuable than processes and tools, but many organizations have had success using Visual Studio and TFS to implement an agile transformation. Many organizations even use the adoption of standardized tools as a catalyst for adoption. We'll investigate the validity of this approach, how to make it successful, and chronicle the path of an organization and its teams from agile newbies to ninja agilistas

Speakers: Allen Hurst and Devlin Liles

Allen Hurst

Allen Hurst is a Principal Consultant at Improving Enterprises. Since graduating from Texas A&M, he has spent his career consulting with clients, first as a Java and .NET developer, and most recently as an Agile coach and project manager. In 2007 he joined Improving Enterprises and led projects in their College Station office until 2012, when he relocated to lead Improving’s consulting business in Houston.

Allen has a passion for helping customers improve through agile values and practices, rapid delivery of quality software and most of all, identifying ways that technology can make their business more effective. When not delivering for clients, he enjoys making new friends around town, and speaking at user groups and conferences. Allen has spoken at a variety of conferences including Agile 2012, Houston TechFest, and AgileDotNet. To learn more about Allen Hurst, visit his personal website atahurst.com.

Devin Liles

Devlin Liles is a Principal Consultant at Improving and a passionate technologist. Devlin prides himself on staying a generalist, but his passion in development is data and its interactions. These passions gained him the recognition of Microsoft as an MVP of Data Platform Development awardee in 2011 and 2012, and currently a Microsoft MVP in Application Lifecycle Management.

Since 2007, he has been presenting and teaching classes on software development practices and tools to audiences around the nation. He is a regular national presenter at user groups, conferences, and community events. He founded an internal Corporate Software Craftsmanship conference in Northwest Arkansas, as well as led the Tyson User Group for a year and a half. He has been involved in many conferences and events (Dallas TechFest, Houston TechFest, Houston CodeCamp, Houston GiveCamp, and AgileDotNet) as a coordinator, planner, or just a helping hand.

In 2012, Devlin became published along with his good friend, Tim Rayburn, as authors of a book about Entity Framework and the expert approach to it, titled Entity Framework 4.1: Expert’s Cookbook. He is an avid soccer player and hobbyist gamer.
