10th Annual Immunize Nebraska
 
Call for Abstracts

The Immunize Nebraska Conference Program Committee invites attendees to submit original abstracts to be considered for presentation as posters at the Immunize Nebraska Conference. The program committee is seeking to complement a dynamic conference with topics related to education, health promotion or innovative research topics focusing on improving immunization rates among individuals and communities. Posters may have been presented at other conferences within the past year or planned conferences over the next year.

Abstracts are limited to 300 words and should include: purpose, design, findings and implications for practice. Abstracts will be peer reviewed for outstanding quality and timely content. Posters must be educational and must not promote any commercial product or service. The poster presenter must be registered to attend the conference.

Abstracts should be submitted to Katie O’Keefe at
kokeefe@creighton.edu by May 15, 2013.

Acceptance of poster abstracts for presentation will be sent via e-mail by June 1, 2013.

Purpose and Objectives

Purpose — To bring together individuals from Nebraska and surrounding states who are interested in promoting immunization levels that will eliminate vaccine preventable diseases throughout the lifespan of all persons and provide information for comprehensive immunization coverage, awareness and understanding of vaccines for children, adolescents and adults.

Objectives — At the end of the course, participants should be able to:
• Describe the difference between active and passive immunity
• List two characteristics of live attenuated vaccines
• List two characteristics of inactivated vaccines
• For each vaccine-preventable disease, identify those for whom routine immunization is recommended
• For each vaccine-preventable disease, describe characteristics of the vaccine used to prevent the disease
• Describe an emerging immunization issue
• Locate resources relevant to current immunization practice
