Young women interested in developing their leadership skills are invited to apply for the Teen Leadership Institute. The institute will consist of monthly workshops on leadership methods, decision making skills, goal setting, public speaking, civic engagement and volunteering. This leadership program is aimed at encouraging and motivating teenage girls to make a difference in their community through leadership, civic engagement, communications, social justice, advocacy and volunteerism. This is a great way for young women to gain experience in event planning and marketing, earn community service hours and prepare for an impressive college application. Young women will also engage in several interactive and entertaining activities that will help them identify and cultivate their own leadership abilities. Participants will attend monthly classes, go on field trips, meet positive female role models, learn about their cultural heritage, discover new ways to build confidence and explore their own strengths. The institute is organized by Latinitas, a nonprofit dedicated to the empowerment and advancement of Latina youth. The program will run throughout the school semester leading up to a graduation ceremony in the May. Membership is open to Hispanic high school girls in grades 9-12. Space is limited. The deadline to submit completed applications is January 16th. Members must be willing to commit to attending the kick-off retreat on January 28th and participating in monthly workshops held on Saturdays. Applications can be submitted via the web at www.LasLatinitas.com, through email at firstname.lastname@example.org or in person or mail at 1359 Lomaland, Suite 502, El Paso, TX 79935.
