A heart in a jar is a fascinating object. It’s time stopped. It’s nature controlled. It’s convenient, for study at leisure.
But it’s not beating. It’s a cold piece of humanity, taken out of context. It’s been disconnected from all the other systems that make it work. It’s connecting, really, that is the stuff of life.
That idea is being explored this week at the international TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh, Scotland, where speakers are taking about living connections: The biological processes at work in the body. The cultural constructs that shape societies. The technologies and resources that make life not only possible, but also enjoyable.
On July 14, TEDxMIA will host a simulcast of speakers from the third day of TEDGlobal at The Stage from 5pm - 10pm. This time, we'll have two screens, to allow for more South Florida TED fans to join us at this great space!
Don’t just sit back and watch — participate!
Vote for the speakers whose talks you want to see
Check out the list of geniuses speaking July 13 on the TEDGlobal 2011 website and then vote on the TEDxMIA Facebook page for the speakers that inspire you. The speakers who receive the most votes will most likely be shown at our simulcast on July 14. Will it be the radical optimist? The sand artist? The anti-hunger leader? The lie detector?
Come connect with local thinkers to get ideas off the shelf and into motion. The TEDxMIA event is free, open to the public and with food available for purchase by the gastroPod food truck, which will be onsite all evening. The live streaming event TEDGlobal conference sets the stage for the annual TEDxMIA conference, taking place September 13.
TEDxLive is an extension of the TEDx program, launched by TED in 2010. TEDxLive events are TEDx events built around the live webcast of TED Conferences. TEDxLive events enable TED enthusiasts all over the world to experience live sessions of the TED Conference; events can be simple viewing events, and may also host live speakers.
Dedicated to the spreading of great ideas,
