Born to Learn - How Brain Development Research is Driving School Readiness
Ok, maybe not as catchy as Springsteen's Born to Run, but after you hear these facts, your world will be rocked.
Did you know that 85% of the human brain develops between birth and 36 months? And the greatest predictor of school success is the home environment of the child? Children who experience abuse, neglect, and toxic stress make up 65% of those who enter school behind. So what early steps can be taken that all children need?
Join us as Derek Lewis, Executive Director of First Steps, takes us through how recent research in early brain development, suggests that subtle, yet impactful interventions at an early age have the greatest impact in helping children enter school on track and ready to succeed.
Even if you're not a parent, this is good information, boss.

Now in its sixth year, the TEDxGreenville movement is igniting passions and building bridges like never before, while highlighting the incredible people and organizations that make the Upstate of South Carolina one of the best places to live on the planet.
About TEDx, where x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized and all done by volunteers.
