About Jeff Barr
Jeff Barr, Lead Evangelist for Amazon Web Services, is focused on furthering awareness among software developers of the opportunity to innovate and build businesses using Amazon Web Services. In this role, Jeff travels, speaks, blogs, and conducts virtual events.
Since early 2006, Amazon Web Services (AWS) has provided companies of all sizes with an infrastructure web services platform in the cloud. With AWS companies can requisition compute power, storage, and other services–gaining access to a suite of elastic IT infrastructure services as business needs dictate.
Jeff has a longstanding interest in Web services and programmatic information interchange. He has held development and management positions at Microsoft, KnowNow, eByz, and Akopia and was a co-founder of Visix Software. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science from American University and performed graduate work in computer science at George Washington University.
Jeff has written over 1000 posts for the AWS blog and another 1100 for his personal blog. He’s been a technical reviewer for 4 books on web services wrote a chapter on advanced scripting for a book on Second Life, and is the author of Host Your Website in the Cloud, to e published by SitePoint in September of 2010.
