Dear colleagues:

My best wishes for a happy, healthy and productive New Year.

I’m happy to announce that the Task Force’s next meeting will take place on the 5th Floor, Room C-500 at the Michael A. Bilandic Building, 160 North LaSalle Street, Chicago, at  4 p.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2014.  The meeting is expected to adjourn at about 6 p.m.

On November 20, 2013, the Task Force heard testimony from Task Force member and the Chair of its Capital Formation Committee, Eric Weinheimer.  Drawing upon his experiences as a 2013 Chicago Community Trust Fellow who recently toured social enterprises and workforce development organizations on both coasts and in London, and who participated in the Social Enterprise World Form in Calgary, Eric shared his actionable policy recommendations to build a stronger social enterprise ecosystem in Illinois.  Eric’s testimony was exceptionally well received by the Task Force, and he has graciously agreed to provide his further input at its next meeting.

Since 1996, Eric Weinheimer has been the President and CEO of The Cara Program, a non-profit organization that provides comprehensive training, job placement and support services to individuals who are homeless and struggling in poverty.  Under his leadership, The Cara Program has created and secured over 4,000 transitional and permanent jobs for Cara graduates, and founded three leading social enterprises - Cleanslate Chicago, 180 Properties (a joint venture with Mercy Housing Lakefront), and TCP Staffing - to generate revenue and provide both employment opportunities and on-the-job training to individuals who have significant obstacles to employment, including recent incarceration.

Eric earned a B.S. from Boston College and an M.B.A. from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business, where he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award for Public Service.

I look forward to seeing you on the 4th.  Please confirm that you plan to attend.  Thanks very much.

Warmest regards,
