Tamale House East Proudly Presents A Cinco de Mayo Pig Roast with Chef Cariño Cortez 1707 e 6th street 78702 Saturday, May 4th 2013 7pm $20 per person We are going Whole Hog for Cinco de Mayo roasting an entire pig for this Festive Pop Up! Cinco de Mayo arrives a day early as we throw a party on Saturday May 4th! Third generation Austin restaurateurs from the Tamale House East are collaborating with a third generation chef from the Legendary San Antonio Mi Tierra Restaurant family, Cariño Cortez! "Growing up in the restaurant business, Mi Tierra Café in San Antonio is where this chef’s family tradition begins. Watching her father, Jorge Cortez, from a very young age and having him, as a mentor has always been a great compass in her life. After obtaining a bachelors degree in business management and accounting, she moved forward to pursue a culinary arts degree from the Culinary Institute of America. Cortez, spent her externship working in NYC under Chef de Cuisine, Mark Lapico, at three Michelin starred restaurant, Jean Georges, then going on to study authentic Mexican food in Chicago under Rick Bayless. At Michelin starred restaurant, Topolobampo, Cortez worked as a lead line cook under Chef de Cuisine, Andres Padilla and was able to hone her culinary skills on the restaurant's monthly menu development team. She returns to her home state of Texas to share her true passion for authentic Mexican cuisine and continue the Cortez family tradition."
