About the Panelists
Jon Troutman is a User Experience Designer who most recently led product design at General Assembly where he focused on designing user flows that bridged online and offline experiences. He helped GA scale from a single community of users in NYC to a global network of campuses and online educationaly content provider. In addition to sweating the details from the user's point of view, Jon is an enthusiastic front-end developer who recognizes the relationship between clean code and good UX. While at GA, he wrote code and collaborated with the engineering team to rebuild General Assembly's website with a content-focused, mobile-first approach. He organizes an ongoing bare-knuckled, bow-tied event series called Designer's Debate Club. And most recently, Jon co-founded a startup where they are developing the simplest way for people to connect with their homes and families.
Kyle Parkinson is a user experience designer for Warby Parker, where he focuses on creating an easy, clean, and fun experience for purchasing glasses online. Kyle collaborates with the creative, tech, and analytics teams to ensure that site features and flows are fully optimized across multiple digital platforms. Prior to Warby Parker, Kyle worked in UX and information architecture across multiple industries including fashion, luxury, and consumer products. When he's not making wireframes, he's usually making good tunes and bad jokes.
Michal Pasternak is a partner and head of user experience at Huge, where she oversees one of the world's largest and most talented UX teams. She has driven the creation of user-friendly experiences on many of the agency's most prominent e-commerce and media engagements. She also helped develop Huge School, a discipline-specific, paid apprenticeship program designed to give talented individuals the skills required to be successful in a career at Huge. Previously, Michal worked at IDEO and Applied Materials, where she designed user-centered products in the physical world. Michal earned an MS and BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University. She aslso studied, taught and performed improv comedy for more than 15 years.
Paul Canetti is the founder and CEO of MAZ, a publishing platform for mobile and tablet devices. Having previously worked at Apple, Conde Nast, and as the Creative Director of a web/app development agency, Canetti truly understands the increasingly important intersection of content, design and technology.
Yannell Rodriguez is a User Experience Designer at Birchbox where she juggles multiple teams to ensure the cohesion of great experiences throughout the Birchbox world. She has transitioned the team into using user research and other testing methodologies to develop products in an agile development environment. Previously, Yannell worked at Refinery29, where she designed multi-platform experiences. While at Refinery29, she went on a 10-day hackathon with the product team to the Virgin Islands to develop three innovative products. When she's not looking at analytics and making interactive prototypes, she's taking photographs with her russian Zenit-B, Yashica or one of the three polaroid cameras she owns.
