Charity:

Highland Tap and Burger has a standing relationship with North HS and Skinner Middle School.  Throughout the year we raise money to support specific programs.  Thus far we have have raised 100% of the money for the women's soccer team and boys wrestling team.  We also have adopted Skinner middle school so on certain days we do fund raisers we match dollar for dollar for music and art.  For the Derby, a portion of the proceeds will go to the French Club at North HS that is trying to raise enough money to take a trip to Quebec, Canada.  These are high achieving students with minimal means and no funding from the school.  Currently the kids are raising money by themsleves through a babysitting program.  100% of what is raised at the Derby Party will go to sending these kids on a trip that will make a difference.  Many of them have never even left the city limits of Denver:

Check out their website http://mmelutzfrench.org/

They need the money by 6/15, so the event comes at a great time.  Currently they are 2300 dollars short.

Thank you for all of your support:

The North High French Club is a group of core French students, aged 15 to 17. One of the highlights of French Club is planning for a student trip to a French-speaking location or a location influenced by French culture. The goals of traveling with French Club are:

* To teach students how to plan ahead and reach their goals, by requiring students commit to fund-raising and are held accountable for commitments.

* To teach students to prepare for a trip without family members, by modeling the step-by-step process of preparing for a trip.

* To teach students how to travel safely and be prepared for all weather circumstances, by providing a packing list and modeling how to keep wallets, purses, travel documents, etc. safe.

* To teach students how to acclimate in a new environment, by explaining the reasons for the differences in culture that they are experiencing.

* To teach students to work and live together for a period of time, by requiring students to be respectful and understanding of their fellow travelers.

* To show students the relevance of learning French, by exposing them to people who use the French language on a daily basis.

* To allow students to utilize the French language in context, by requiring them to speak French in all public settings.

* To teach students the joys of experiencing other cultures, by ensuring the trip is a positive experience for all.
