Description

SV2’s Fall Gathering
Unlocking Human Potential

Save the date for an exhilarating evening with the whole SV2 community on Tuesday, September 29th from 6:00-8:30 pm at the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto.

Inspiration awaits at our Fall Gathering featuring Jessica Jackley, Kiva co-founder and author of the new book Clay Water Brick: Finding Inspiration from Entrepreneurs Who Do the Most with the Least, and SV2's two new Grantees, Somos Mayfair and Village Enterprise. Both organizations exemplify this spirit as they each provide access to the resources necessary to help people and communities unlock their potential.

Connect with SV2 Grantees and fellow SV2 Partners over cocktails and appetizers. Current and past Grantees, SV2 Partners, prospective Partners, and invited Strategic Allies of SV2 are welcome. We look forward to an evening filled with stories of purpose, persistence and potential.

Featured Speakers:
Jessica Jackley is an entrepreneur focused on financial inclusion, the sharing economy, and social justice. She is best known as a cofounder of Kiva, the world's first p2p microlending website that has facilitated over $740M in loans since its founding. Most recently, Jessica served as Walt Disney Imagineering's first Entrepreneur in Residence.

Prior to this, Jessica served as a Venture Partner with the Collaborative Fund, and was a Cofounder and CEO of ProFounder, a pioneering crowdfunding platform for U.S. entrepreneuers. She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, a 2011 World Economic Forum's Young Global Leader, and serves as an active board member or advisor for several nonprofit organizations.

Jessica holds an MA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, a certificate in Global Leadership and Public Policy from the Harvard Kenney School, and a BA from Bucknell University. She is the author of Clay Water Brick: Finding Inspiration from Entrepreneuers Who Do the Most with the Least (Random House).

Since its inception, SV2's newest Education Grantee Somos Mayfair has focused its work in the Mayfair neighborhood of east San Jose. With its En Nuestras Manos campaign, Somos has focused on early education and literacy, with the overarching goal of supporting third-grade reading proficiency. Somos's programmatic strategy includes elements of early education, kinder readiness, summer learning, out-of-school support, and parent engagement and leadership development, all through Promotores - neighborhood residents whom Somos trains to serve as early school success and family wellness mentors to other Mayfair residents.

Village Enterprise, SV2's newest International Grantee, works to equip people living in extreme poverty with the resources to create sustainable businesses. They envision a world free of extreme poverty and chronic hunger where people have the means to sustain their families. The organization pursues its mission through multi-pronged support of rural entrepreneuers that includes business, conservation, and financial training start-up grants; business savings groups; and ongoing mentorship. Village Enterprise currently works in Kenya and Uganda and has its U.S. office in San Carlos.
