In 2002, twenty-one canoe and kayak racers launched their boats into the Suwannee River at Fargo, Georgia and the Suwannee River Challenge was born. To celebrate our 15th year we are adding a full-length, Suwannee River Ultimate Challenge to the mix.
The Suwannee River 230 Ultimate Challenge will begin at Griffis Fish Camp (north of Fargo, Georgia) at 7:00 a.m.on Saturday, October 8th. Racers will have 100 hours to paddle 230 miles across the state of Florida to the town of Suwannee on the Gulf of Mexico.
Racers are encouraged, but not required, to have a support crew. There will be at least six designated checkpoints where paddlers must check in. These are also areas where racers can rest and be re-supplied. Because this race is limited to 50 boats, there are only five different divisions. We expect the serious paddlers to show up with fast boats. All registrants will receive a poly pro race shirt. All finishers will receive commemorative medals. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each division.
Registration for our traditional 26-mile Suwannee Marathon and 52-mile Suwannee Challenge can be found at www.ACA1.com. (American Canoe Adventures)
