Today’s healthcare executive faces many challenges. Issues such as workforce shortages to the need to update technology and make facility infrastructure improvements as well as provide safe high-quality patient care make financial challenges extraordinarily complex. In addition, healthcare leaders face ever-increasing regulatory demands and diminishing financial rewards. What organizational strategies are available to healthcare executives to affect their organization’s bottom line? How can leaders use meaningful metrics to examine such areas as product lines and supply chain costs and revenues? What are the critical links that exist between financial and nonfinancial managers (or clinical and nonclinical managers) that can impact the financial health of departments and the organization as a whole?

Elisabeth R. Wynn
Senior Vice President, Health Economics & Finance
Greater New York Hospital Association
Elisabeth Wynn is the Senior Vice President of Health Finance and Reimbursement at the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA). Ms. Wynn provides technical assistance on the rules and requirements of public health insurance programs, including Medicare and Medicaid and supports educational programming for hospital and nursing home members on emerging finance and reimbursement issues. Before joining GNYHA in 1999, Ms. Wynn was a health care consultant with HCR Consulting, Inc. In her two-year tenure there, Ms. Wynn worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and served as a staff member on the federal interagency cancer workgroup for President Clinton’s Initiative on Race and Health. Ms. Wynn is a graduate of Middlebury College and earned a MPA from New York University.
Joseph J. Guarracino
Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer
The Brooklyn Hospital Center
Joseph J. Guarracino is Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Brooklyn Hospital Center, where he directs the strategic business and financial operations of the center and its affiliated entities. Mr. Guarracino has more than two decades of accomplishments and experience in the financial administration in academic hospital settings including new business development, relationship management, operations management, and staff development. Prior to joining The Brooklyn Hospital Center in 2007, he served as AVP of Financial Services and Chief Financial Officer for Health Quest Systems, a three hospital not-for-profit system in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Guarracino has held other executive positions in the New York Metropolitan Area over the years and he began his career at Ernst & Young LLC. Mr. Guarracino serves in leadership and board roles for a number of healthcare organizations, including Network Recovery Services, Inc., Ridgewood Bushwick Senior Citizens Council, Inc., Iona College Alumni Board, Healthfirst, Inc., and Healthcare Financial Management Association. Mr. Guarracino is an Adjunct Professor at Iona College in New Rochelle, New York, where he teaches a graduate-level course in healthcare finance. Mr. Guarracino has an MBA in Healthcare Management from American InterContinental University and Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Iona College, Hagan School of Business respectively.
Chief Financial Officer & Senior Vice President, Finance
South Nassau Community Hospital
As senior vice president and CFO, Mr. Bogen is responsible for the overall financial management of South Nassau and manages the Hospital’s financial reporting and related internal controls. He directs the organization’s financial planning related to growth, financing and associated issues and will coordinate all relationships with auditors, third-party reimbursement agents, managed care companies, investment bankers and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY). Mr. Bogen has more than 35 years of experience in healthcare financial operations. Mr. Bogen is active in numerous public accounting and healthcare financial management associations. His professional memberships include the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants; the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Healthcare Compliance Association.
Eileen O'Donnell, RN
Director, Healthcare M&A
Eileen is a Director in the Health Industries Advisory practice at PricewaterhouseCoopers in New York. She has over 10 years of clinical health care experience and more than 10 years of health care management consulting experience. Areas of emphasis include mergers and acquisitions, operational transformations, contract negotiations, process improvements, clinical support, productivity and strategic planning and GPO relationship management. Prior to joining PricewaterhouseCoopers, Eileen spent many years working in various clinical and administrative positions within large academic medical centers, as well as mid-size community hospitals and long term care facilities. She also worked at Nexera Consulting, a wholly owned subsidiary of Greater New York Hospital Association. Eileen has organized and traveled internationally to bring health care to those in need, including providing direct patient care and assisting in the delivery of medical supplies. Eileen earned her BSN from Fairfield University, an MA from Columbia University, and an MBA from Cornell University. She is also a Certified Materials and Resource Professional and a volunteer with the Medical Reserve Corps.
