Event Details

Having a new baby is typically a wonderful mix of fun and frustration, confidence and confusion, feeling both overjoyed and overwhelmed,
Survival Parenting: Learning to Live With a Newborn is a relaxed, entertaining, empowering look at life with a newborn. You'll learn what you need to know about the care and capabilites of newborns to make it through those early, crazy days and weeks: diapering; bathing; cord care; sleep (theirs and yours); swaddling; recovering from childbirth (both physically and emotionally); dealing with family and visitors; keeping your relationships strong; and much, much more!
Classes are small and personal, so there’s plenty of time for questions, discussion, and individual instruction time.

You'll get the most out of Survival Parenting if you take it in the last trimester of your pregnancy, or shortly after your baby is born. If your baby has already been born, you're welcome to bring him or her with you.
Registration is $20 per individual, $30 per couple.

About the Instructor
Kathy has been teaching and working with new Moms since 1995. She's served on the Faculty and Board of Directors of Lamaze International, and won the Elizabeth Bing Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Field of Childbirth Education in 2006. One of the first ten DONA-Certified doulas in the country, Kathy is a founding member of The Birth Circle, an agency that provides birth education, labor, and postpartum support to underserved and at-risk mothers in Pittsburgh.
Praise for Survival Parenting
"The Survival Parenting class last night was fantastic! We've been to a number of different parenting classes so far in our pregnancy, and this is the first class that has really taken on the subject of parenthood as my husband and I will experience it (as opposed to being completely child centered). In addition to giving us great information about newborn care, Kathy addressed the huge changes that parenthood will mean in our lives and relationship. This class has given us a better understanding of how we can care for ourselves as new parents and hopefully, as a result, be better parents to the little girl we're expecting. Survival Parenting has given us so much to think and talk about in the coming weeks, and we're so glad we took the class!"

Praise for All of Kathy's Classes
"Immensely instructive, insightful, helpful, and fun!"

"This class was the single most important thing we did as a couple to prepare."

"I cannot recommend Kathy's class more highly to anyone in the Pittsburgh area.  We found everything in Kathy's class -- the resources to help us through the first few days of breastfeeding, our pediatrician, and most importantly, time with each other to discuss the enormous change in our lives that was about to happen. In the end, it wasn't the books we read, but the conversations in Kathy's class that mattered for birth and thereafter."

"Your classes were such a gift. You gave us evidence-based information, skills for labor (and ultimately life), and most of all, confidence to know that we can handle whatever came our way."

"This class was educational and fun. Kathy is an excellent instructor. We enjoyed our time with her."

"Kathy's perspective is enlightening and very reassuring and empowering."
