Supporting Special Needs Students with the iPad

Discover various ways the iPad can be a customized tool to support students' learning needs. In this session we will explore how the iPad can assist in skill and language development, communication, content area learning, and more! Participants will learn how to turn on and adjust built-in accessibility features such as voice-over, zoom, and assistive touch. Also, teachers will learn how to set up the on-screen keyboard to use shortcuts, different languages, and to integrate pictures with text. During the workshop, a number of free and paid apps will be demonstrated that showcase the potential of this device to support students. Time will be provided  for hands-on exploration and sharing ideas.

Kristine Scharaldi is an experienced teacher and outstanding staff developer in the area of technology integration in K-12 classrooms, who is back to Kean by popular demand.

Kristine’s workshops will be held from 8:30-2:00 in Kean Hall Room 225 at the Kean University, Union Campus. A continental breakfast will be served and participants may bring a brown bag lunch.

We strongly encourage registrants to “bring your own device” (BYOD), but some iPads are available, if needed. Note that workshop sessions are limited to 20-25 registrants to allow for ongoing interactive hands-on experiences.
